AD 207, Claudius II, an Roman Emperor decided that single men made better soldiers and he banned marriage for young men. A priest named VALENTINE, began marrying Roman lovers in secret. Claudius II found out about this and threw Valentine in prison. In prison Valentine fell in love with a young blind girl, his jailer’s daughter. His love was so strong that he succeeded in restoring the girls sight. Just before he died, he wrote her a letter sining it, “From your Valentine.” He was put to death in February of that year.
